I completed reading this yesterday and this is another high quality work from the makers of Starting Strength Basic Barbell Training. This has all you need to plan your training from beginner through to advanced and also to continue at the advanced level. The Starting Strength workout routines are very different from many other beginner workouts and programs in that, for the first 1-3 weeks, there are only 4 exercises covered; the squat, deadlift, overhead press and bench press. This is a good thing. 8.5/10 Like Rippetoe's first book ("Starting Strength") this is an excellent beginners guide to strength training, this time focussing more on programming than learning the basic lifts.

The lifts are designed to be as maximally heavy while remaining as minimal as possible, so that you can continue to get stronger while maximally delaying the inevitable wall of grueling workouts, failed lifts, and the slogging stupor of under-recovery.
